QUARTET

Our quartet was founded out of a shared desire to explore the great chamber music repertoire of the 18th and 19th centuries, represented at its finest by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, through a historically informed approach.

We also frequently engage with the Romantic repertoire and devote particular attention to works by contemporary composers written with classical instruments in mind.

We perform on copies of original instruments, using bows appropriate to the historical period in which each piece was composed, and, whenever possible, we rely on autograph manuscripts or first editions. We are especially interested in lesser-known composers, as well as in unpublished or recently rediscovered works.

In this regard, in November 2020 the label Urania Records released, as a world premiere, our complete recording of the string quartets by the Como-born composer Francesco Pasquale Ricci. Likewise, in June 2026, Arcana will release, also as a world premiere, our complete recording of Beethoven’s six Quartets, Anhang 2.

Our musical vision has been shaped through collaboration and study with great musicians such as H. Beyerle, A. Moccia, the Quartetto di Cremona, and C. Coin.

Our artistic journey has led us to pay tribute to the great composer Johann Sebastian Bach, reflected in the very name of our quartet, which references his keyboard composition Aria Variata alla maniera italiana in A minor, BWV 989.

We are based in Como and are part of the network Le Dimore del Quartetto.

In June 2025, we were named "Ensemble of the Year" by the prestigious Fondo Morosini per la Cultura e per la Musica.
